There are two types of contracts with spirits.
One is the usual method of contracting, conducted through negotiation with the spirit itself.
The other is a bit more violent and practically impossible—fighting the spirit, winning, and then binding its soul to serve under you.
The latter method is impossible because spirits don't exactly die when defeated in battle.
For spirits, a physical body is nothing more than a rough vessel made by clumping together surrounding elements. If they're about to lose a fight, they can abandon their body at any time.
To prevent this and bind a spirit, you'd need high-level magic that can bind the soul itself.
Setting aside whether someone who can use such magic would even need a spirit's help, the method I'll use to contract with the mountain god is the first one.
The mountain god is a spirit with power surpassing even Ktuzo, the strongest spirit I possess.
A spirit that's become one with nature has its power spread so widely that it's hard to gauge exactly how strong it is, but you can make a rough estimate.
The mountain god is definitely stronger than a legion commander, at the very least...
