In the end, I decided to prioritize stability over mana consumption for the Physical Nullification function I was implementing in Kyanos.
The ghost mode created through Vanishing-style fourth-dimensional technology puts the user in a state of Physical Nullification that lets them pass through matter, but it also makes them vulnerable to being blown away by exorcism magic.
Accordingly, I increased the total number of four-dimensional folds to eleven. This theoretically maximized its existential strength, making it harder for exorcism magic's special effectiveness to apply; it now works no better than ordinary attack magic.
In exchange for resistance to exorcism magic, its mana consumption per second jumped from 170K to 400K. That's heavy enough to drain an ordinary human's mana in seconds—and even a demon's.
However, Kyanos has the same 8000K mana storage capacity as King Scepter Beifan. Hiyori herself also has an abundant supply of mana. I decided that if the alternative was lowering its performance to conserve mana, it was better to improve its performance even at the cost of higher consumption.
With current technology, I can't have both low consumption and high performance. This is the limit.
The data gained from all this Vanishing-style research is invaluable.
Not only has it helped implement a new function in a magic wand, but research into ghost Gremlins is also poised to make a great leap forward.
Until now, there had been many mysteries surrounding how ghost monsters emerged and reproduced.
But if they were semitransparent and physically nullified because they had one foot in the fourth dimension, that changed everything...
