Outside the inn, the Centa-Uros were waiting, greedily munching on broccoli clamped in their mouths like roses, while Menou, still wrapped in cloth, nibbled on bread.
“I can’t believe the western gate is completely sealed until tomorrow’s Demon King suppression force departs. With the Demon King’s army invading so often, no one knows when they’ll attack again.”
While Kagami and Alice rolled around on the bed, Takako sat elegantly in a chair, holding a teacup. She sighed in annoyance as she said this.
Kagami and the others had headed for the western gate, only to be turned away by the guards posted there. They tried several times to persuade them, but the guards kept insisting, “Wait until tomorrow,” and refused to open the gate.
They even suggested opening it just long enough to let them out, but apparently several monsters were already bearing down on the gate. It wasn’t enough to call an invasion, but opening the gate would still put the city at risk, so they were turned away again.
“This’d be simple if I just went outside and knocked them all flying.”
“No, Kagami-chan. No matter how strong you are, I doubt they’d open the gate and risk endangering themselves. Besides, those guards probably don’t have the authority to overrule the people in charge of this city.”
“Ugh, so we’ll just have to make a mad dash as soon as the gate opens tomorrow...”
While listening to the two of them talk, Alice seemed unable to sit still. To calm herself down, she imitated Kagami, rolling back and forth across the bed.
